MOVIEPILOT.COM – There is no question that fans of The Walking Dead love Rick Grimes, but how much is known about the man behind the walker-killing badass, Andrew Lincoln? 10. His last name isn’t really Lincoln
An actor that goes by a different name is not a huge shocker; Andrew Lincoln’s real last name is Clutterbuck. The 42-year-old star began going by his stage name when he was a student at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He began using a stage name because he thought that his real last name “sounded like a poor character from a Charles Dickens novel.”
9. Gained attention in America for his role in a Rom-Com
Andrew Lincoln had already had quite the career established in the UK, but with the 2003 release of the British Rom-Com Love Actually, everyone began to know his name. He played Mark, whose best friend Peter (Chiwetel Ejiofor) was getting married to a girl named Juliet (Keira Knightley). Mark was the best man and was also tasked with videoing the wedding. Both Peter and Juliet believed that Mark disliked her, but he was actually in love with her.
8. Jon Bernthal is his best friend
Although the duo may have been frenemies onscreen, they are actually best friends in real life. Lincoln and Bernthal even tested together for the pilot episode of The Walking Dead during auditions. They were the show’s first two regulars cast.
7. Married to a musician’s daughter
Lincoln married Gael Anderson in June of 2006; classic rock fans may recognize her last name. She is the daughter of Jethro Tull vocalist Ian Anderson. The pair have two children together.
6. A-List Friendship
We know quite a bit about his friendships with fellow TWD cast mates, but it turns out that Andrew Lincoln also has some serious star power on his friends list. He and his wife are good friends with actress Gwyneth Paltrow and musician Chris Martin. Their daughter, Apple, even served as the flower girl at Lincoln’s 2006 wedding.
5. He doesn’t workout
Andrew Lincoln does not workout with a trainer like most of Hollywood’s celebrities. He credits his rigorous filming schedule for his physique.

In between shoots, Lincoln often times invites the cast of The Walking Dead over for dinner. Steven Yeun is a fan of his spaghetti bolognese.
2. He was a jock
In school Lincoln played rugby. He was encouraged to quite and try his hand at acting. He only agreed because he thought that it would help him meet girls. He landed the role of The Artful Dodger in his school’s production of Oliver!.
1. ‘Drop the Dead Donkey’
Lincoln’s first on-screen role was on the episode ‘Births and Deaths’ of a sitcom called Drop the Dead Donkey back in 1994. The show was set at a fictional TV news company and it ran for six seasons.
